Li Tuo Kobe designed the OCBC bank’s lab crawl in 2016. OCBC’s goal was to promote its Fintech and Innovation Group (The Open Vault) and to introduce the bank’s engagement with technology in financial services.

FinTech and Innovation Group Booth

There were 5 OCBC departments exhibiting in the lab crawl. Fintech and Innovation Group was the event host, so it had the biggest booth which was used to introduce the bank department. For this design, Li Tuo Kobe employed a zigzag shape structure to maximize the display area, then aligned the content with visitors’ behavior flow.

Ceiling Banners

For the event layout, Li Tuo Kobe and his colleagues came up with a fresh idea. The visitor journey started with a problem statement – “How to be part of the inevitable change?” This question implied that financial institutions should actively adopt new technologies in the changing era.

Accordingly, the 5 exhibiting departments represented the 5 steps of new technology adoption. Their booths or exhibits lined up like solution procedures to guide visitors understand how OCBC adopts a new technology and how the departments contribute to each step. The banners hung from the ceiling as indicators.
